“This program has been designed to help working teachers to gain the new expertise and skills required in the light of New Education Policy of India. This program focuses on obtaining a new teaching specialization, different from the current one, through appropriate studies and training. It includes
1. Professional development, and
2. Career evolution. Continuous training of teachers is based on the paradigm of approaching through competences and on the concept of cumulative development of competence level of teaching staff. The level of competence covered by the programs and continuing training/development activities is evaluated according to: the teacher’s ability to mobilize, combine and use autonomously the knowledge capabilities, the skills and general and professional competences in line with the diverse requirements of a specific context, situation or issue the teacher’s ability to cope with change, complex and unpredictable situations.”

In most professions, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is linked to the right-to-practice or renewal of the license-to-practice. CPD ensures that professionals are up-to-date with the latest changes and updates in their profession through short-term courses which are often mandatory. However, this is not a prevalent practise in the case of teachers. To understand the importance of CPD, we only have to  imagine going to a doctor, a lawyer or a chartered accountant, who has not kept up to date with the changes in techniques, laws, rules and regulations in the profession.
